A 40-year-old cable operator was gunned down near his house by two men in a motorcycle on Friday morning.

The two assailants were wearing a helmet and a monkey cap each. Police said they are scanning CCTV footages near the crime spot in Outer Delhi’s Begumpur to spot the motorcycle’s number plate and identify the suspects.

The police said their initial probe has pointed to personal enmity between the victim and the killers.

The assailants also left behind a pistol at the crime spot that was possibly used to gun down the victim.

The deceased has been identified as Devendra Rathi who runs his own cable business in Begumpur area and also deals in properties. He was popular as the local wrestler and known as a ‘pehalwan’.

The murder took place around 9.30 a.m. while Rathi was on his way back home on a motorcycle from a nearby market. As he was close to his house, the two men on the motorcycle rammed his two-wheeler. As he fell down, one of them pulled out a pistol, Rathi tried escaping but around half-a-dozen bullets found their mark. The victim collapsed in the presence of his father, who looked on in disbelief. The assailants sped away without resistance and the victim rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. A murder case has been registered.
