Producing veggies for Vishu

January 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 04:03 am IST - IDUKKI:

A scheme has been drawn up by the Peruvanthanam grama panchayat in association with the Peerumade Agriculture Development Bank for producing pesticide-free vegetables for Vishu.

As part of it, a sowing festival and a seminar were held on Friday. A large number of farmers participated in the programme. A ten-acre plot at Peruvanthanam will be converted into a vegetable farm. Farmers will be provided seeds, seedlings, and biofertilizers at minimum prices. The grama panchayat will open a permanent vegetable market at Muppathancham Mile and procure vegetables produced by the farmers at remunerative prices, said grama panchayat president K.T. Binu.
