Writers, journalists, artistes and poets from the Telangana State expressed solidarity with teacher of Nizam College and poet C. Kasim who was booked under various provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and demanded that the cases against him be scrapped. Mr. Kasim, who is also editing a magazine Nadusthunna Telangana , was charged along with one more person, M. Shyamsundar Reddy, with sedition and attempting to topple a lawfully elected government. The latter was carrying the magazine copies and a few books written by Prof. Kasim when he was arrested, said D.V. Ramakrishna Rao, the Executive Committee Member of the Revolutionary Writers’ Association (ViRaSam), who convened a roundtable with writers and intellectuals of the state on Friday. “Under the UAPA, it is upon the accused to prove his innocence. This is an undemocratic law and the round table has demanded its repeal,” Mr. Rao said.
