NEW DELHI: In a change from the past, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday will see his resting place Rajghat host a nine-day long discourse titled “Manas Rajghat Katha” by the Ramcharitmanas fame Morari Bapu. The discourse seeks to present the life, work and philosophy of Mahatma on the lines of presentation of Ramcharitmanas.
Sources said the discourse will bring out how Mahatma had emerged as “maryada purushottam” of present times, which Lord Rama was known for.
On the first day, the discourse will be for two hours between 3.15 and 5.30 pm and from Sunday onwards this will be held from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
“It will be more than paying floral tributes to Mahatma by the VIPs. The series of programmes that have been lined up were discussed at the meeting Rajghat Samadhi Samiti where urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu underscored the need to do more to perpetuate and propagate the life, works and the philosophy of Gandhiji, particularly, among the younger generations,” said a source.
Besides the discourse, a 25 panel exhibition titled ‘Mohan se Mahatma Tak’ is also being organized based on the evolution of Gandhiji from a mere ‘Monia’, his childhood name to Mahtma highlighting his experiences and struggles that shaped his life to the point of being the father of the nation. This exhibition will be inaugurated by culture minister Mahesh Sharma at Rajghat Samadhi.
Naidu will inaugurate Kasturba Souvenir Centre in the parking area of Rajghat Samadhi to make available to the large number of visitors, items that perpetuate the memory of the life of Gandhiji.
