‘Green chemistry is need of the hour’

Amravati: “Clean and green chemistry is need of the hour and scientists across the country should take initiative in research for it,” exhorted Prof PD Yadav, vice chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of the national conference on ‘Chemical sciences: Emerging trends and challenges’, organized by PG department of chemistry of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) to celebrate its silver jubilee, Yadav said that future of chemistry was bright.“Chemistry is a beautiful science. Water, carbon, nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorous are the five important wheels in chemistry that help maintain nature’s balance,” he observed and added, “Research in chemistry is a challenging task which researchers should take up.”
Yadav called upon teachers and students to come together for research on newer subjects.
YCMOU VC Dr MM Salunkhe inaugurated the two-day meet while SGBAU VC Mohan Khedkar chaired the function, graced also by IIT, Mumbai’s Prof Saurav Paul, North Maharashtra University’s ex-VC Prof RS Mali, BK Deshmukh Consulting Firm, USA’s CEO and pro VC Jaikiran Tidke.
Prof. Saurav Paul said the world is facing the problem of nitrogen activation and called upon researchers to bring to fore the new face of chemistry, removing the traditional hurdles.
On this occasion, VC Khedkar felicitated Prof Yadav for being conferred Padma Shree by the President of India. Mali felicitated VC Khedkar and pro VC Tidke for their efforts due to which the SGBAU secured ‘A’ grade in the NAAC ranking.
Over 300 scientists are participating in the meet which will have 21 invitees lectures, 25 oral presentations and 250 poster presentations.
