Hyderabad: With the civic polls just around the corner, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has promised a speedy completion of the Old City (development) package, the Charminar pedestrianisation project, apart from taking up a slew of measures to strengthen civic infrastructure of the city.
In what it termed as the "Hyderabad Action Plan" which the party released on Friday, perhaps for the first time, the MIM has said that it is committed to providing clean drinking water as installation of 1,500 reverse osmosis water plants across the city have been promised.
Old City, which faces power issues, may get a shot in the arm, as the party is seeking as many as 27 132/33 KV and 88 33/11 KV power substation for the entire city. MIM has also said that it would work towards moving over head power lines as well. The party has also promised to "revamp" waste management system and operationalise modern slaughter houses at Ramnaspura, Amberpet, New Bhoiguda and Ziaguda. Construction of 250 model markets, which include 10 fish markets, have also found place in the list of promises.
Significantly, the party has said that it is not against the Hyderbad Metro Rail in the Old City. And while it has said that it wants an expeditious completion of the project, party sources said that the MIM ruled out a realignment of the HMR. "We want the metro to pass along the Musi. The planned route from Darul Shifa is not right as there are scores of religious structures which will get affected," MIM has also said that it would expedite the second phase of the MMTS.
The party has opposed "government diktat to GHMC to bear the losses of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation city buses".
