Rewari, January 29

It may be called the outcome of the minimum education qualification condition that over 45 per cent women candidates have been elected members of Zila Parishad in Rewari and Mahendragarh district, which are infamous for gender imbalance.

Sources said women romped home on nine out of 20 seats in Mahendragarh and eight out of 20 seats for Zila Parishad in Rewari district.

Significantly, seven out of these 17 elected women are graduate or have a higher qualification.

The victory of a significant number of women in the elections is a good sign for both Mahendragarh and Rewari districts, which recorded the lowest and second lowest gender ratio across the state in December 2013, respectively.

In Rewari, Sharda Devi of Kosli from ward no. 3, Kanta Devi of Palhavaas from ward no. 4, Suman of Nandha Post from ward no.7, Shashi Bala of Gokalpur from ward no.10, Neelam Devi of Garhi Alawalpur from ward no.12, Manju Bala of Masani from ward no.13, Neetu Choudhary of Khori from ward no.14 and Pinki of Goliyaka from ward no.15 emerged victorious.

In Mahendragarh, Sushila of Sureti Jakhal from ward no.1, Ritu of Khudana from ward 3, Sunita Verma of Kheri from ward 9, Rajbala of Nasibpur from ward 13, Aarti of Sarai from ward 15, Reena Devi of Dholera from ward 17, Suman Rani of Rooper Sarai from ward 18, Kamla Devi of Dancholi from ward 19 and Binod Kumar of Goad from ward 20 won the elections.
