3 'sand boa' snakes seized, 6 smugglers held

Bhopal, Jan 29 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh police’s Special Task Force (STF) today arrested six snake smugglers and seized three ‘sand boa’ snake species (two-faced snake species) – worth Rs three crore in international market – from them in neighbouring Sehore district, STF sources said.
On a tip-off that some people are trying to sell two-faced snakes at Sehore’s Indore Barrier area, the STF, with the help of the Forest Department, arrested Sehore-residents Vikramnath, Mohammad Wasim, Makhan Singh Perwal, Pyare Khan, Anil Verma and Salman.
The accused were trying to sell them for Rs 25 lakh. Trade of ‘sand boa’ snakes is prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act. Recently, some smugglers were arrested from the state capital’s Shahpura area and a two-faced snake seized from them.
