IIM-Bengaluru announces new open online courses on Fundamentals of Business Management

BENGALURU: The Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru on Friday announced a new online certificate course series on Fundamentals of Business Management through the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) mode.

The course will be offered over IIMBx, the institute's MOOC platform based on edX, which is a nonprofit initiative by MIT and Harvard. To increase the reach of these courses, IIMB will also make these courses available in Hindi.

"IIM Bengaluru is leveraging the massive scale and reach of MOOCs to provide basic business skills to everyone who needs them. The Fundamentals of Business Management will bring high-quality management education and a lifelong learning opportunity for many who would otherwise have been unable to access a top management school," IIMB director Sushil Vachani said.

IIMBx was launched in August 2014 to provide access to world-class education in management in India and across the world. IIMBx has launched 15 MOOCs so far, for which 140,000 students from 185 countries have enrolled.

The Fundamentals of Business Management includes six courses: introduction to people management, introduction to operations management, introduction to accounting-1, introduction to corporate finance, introduction to business strategy and introduction to marketing essentials. All six MOOCs are open for enrollment and will be offered in a sequential manner over the next several months.

"Our learners have told us that business and management courses are some of the most in-demand subjects they seek to leverage edX MOOCs for increasing the skills and knowledge so central to succeeding in their careers. IIMB’s programme will provide learners around the world an important credential to improve their job and career prospects," edX CEO and MIT Professor Anant Agarwal said.
