Now, Sri Samyamindra Tirtha new religious head of GSB community

The Konkani speaking Gowd Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) community braving the demise of Sri Sudhindra Tirtha swamiji, head of Kashi Math Samsthan, accepted his disciple Sri Samyamindra Tirtha as the new head of the Samsthan at distant Haridwar on Thursday. Three-days of religious rituals that saw the community pay obeisance to the Samadhi of their erstwhile leader preceded his formal ascension as the head of the GSB community.

MANGALURU: The Konkani speaking Gowd Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) community braving the demise of Sri Sudhindra Tirtha swamiji, head of Kashi Math Samsthan, accepted his disciple Sri Samyamindra Tirtha as the new head of the Samsthan at distant Haridwar on Thursday. Three-days of religious rituals that saw the community pay obeisance to the Samadhi of their erstwhile leader preceded his formal ascension as the head of the GSB community.

Sri Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji Padanam aradhana mahothsav was celebrated in Vyasashram from Tuesday with thousands of GSBs from across India and the world participating. Two MLAs representing the Kerala government paid obeisance at the Samadhi of Sri Sudhindra Thirtha Swami. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada MP and N Yogish Bhat, former deputy speaker of the state assembly too paid respects at Swamiji's Samadhi.
Havans, yaga, daan and other spiritual activities were conducted in the presence of more than 100 Vedic pandits. Sri Samyamindra Tirtha offered special prayers at the Samadhi Vrindavan after the morning arati on Thursday and distributed pawmana prasad to the gathering. Young devotees of samsthan carried photo of Sri Sudhindra Thirtha on a specially decorated palanquin round Vyasashram, to Vyas Ghat and then round Vyas mandir.
After the afternoon pooja, Sri Samyamindra Tirtha offered brahman pooja and offered them 'daan'. A video prepared by Faith Foundation, New Delhi was played on big TV screen for all those who missed witnessing the mahaprasthan of Sri Sudhindhra Tirtha on January 16. The function in the evening saw the community sing paeans about Sri Sudhindra Tirtha and the community leaders urged Sri Samyamindra Tirtha to take over.
Special prayers were offered under leadership of Narasimha Acharya to Sri Samyamindra Tirtha to ascend the peeta of the Samsthan which he accepted and also blessed the community with his benedictions. Upendra Bhat, disciple of musical maestro Bhimsen Joshi sang especially composed bhajans for the occasion. Special prayers were offered at the Samadhi of Sri Sudhindra Tirtha as well as his successor Sri Samyamindra Tirtha.
