VARANASI: The country's first Braille-embedded train, Varanasi-Mysuru Express, arrived at Cantonment railway station on Thursday morning. However, no visually-impaired passengers alighted from the train at the station.
No visually-impaired or differently-abled passengers boarded the train from Mysuru, said an attendant, Ramakrishna. Similar views were echoed by his fellow attendant, Vijay Kurahatti.
“We did not find any visually-impaired person on the train. However, we are expecting them as this is now one of the most convenient means of transport for them,“ Kurahatti said.
TOI caught up with a couple, Urmila Patwa and Santram Patwa, who boarded the bi-weekly express (16229 16230) from Bagalkot in Karnataka. “There weren't any visually-impaired people on the train,“ said Urmila.
Meanwhile, senior NR officials at Cantonment railway station also confirmed that no visually-impaired passengers were travelling in the train that reached Varanasi on Thursday.
