NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday released his book titled “The Turbulent Years: 1980-96”.

The president has speak against the demolition of Babri Mosque and the making of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple site in place of it.

He has said in his book that demolition of the Mosque has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims on which all the Indians should be ashamed.

He termed the act as failure of the then Prime Minister and has written that he should have consulted the senior leaders of other political parties to impede the act.

“The opening of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple site on 1 February 1986 was perhaps another error of judgement. People felt these actions could have been avoided,” the President has written in the book titled “The Turbulent Years: 1980-96” as quoted by The Indian Express.

On December 20, almost six months after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) announced its nationwide drive to collect stones for construction of Ram temple in place of Babri mosque in Ayodhya, two trucks of stones arrived in the temple city.

Turning mosque into temple

The temple is being built on the place of Babri mosque that was demolished by the Hindu fanatics in India on December 6, 1992 as per directives by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The mosque was devastated by Indian extremists who wanted to turn the mosque into a temple.

The demolition of Muslims’ worship place left more than 2000 people dead in the ensuing riots in many major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad.

It has to be mentioned that Lucknow bench of Allahbad High Court gave the verdict on 30th September 2010 that ran into 10,000 odd pages.

The High Court ordered that the land around the disputed site would be divided into three parts, one for Hindus, another for Muslims and the third for Nirmohi Akhara, a Hindu sect, but the peace haters ruined the building despite court’s order.

Mughal Emperor Zaheer-ud-Din Babar constructed the Babri Mosque in 1527 that was a masterpiece of the era but the Hindu extremist leader Lal Kishen Advani along with others started campaign to turn the mosque into Ram Mandir.

Despite the passage of twenty-three years, the Indian authorities failed to punish any culprit behind the incident.
