Women candidates made their mark in the zila parishad elections in Karnal district by winning majority of seats, the results for which were declared on Thursday.

KARNAL: Women candidates made their mark in the zila parishad elections in Karnal district by winning majority of seats, the results for which were declared on Thursday.
Out of total 25 wards, women candidates were declared elected from 14. Kuljeet Kaur won from ward number 22 in Karnal by getting 11,962 votes. In the village panchayat elections in the district, 164 women have been elected as sarpanch.
Seven candidates each with the backing of ruling BJP and INLD won zila parishad polls. Congress-backed candidates were declared elected from four wards and six independent contestants also got elected. In Panipat, BJP-backed candidates won from seven wards out of 15 wards. tnn INLD-supported candidates won from five wards, while those with the backing of Congress and BSP won from one ward each.
