Amravati: The
women of
Pusda village under
Teosa Assembly constituency of the district are a happy lot today. Their otherwise idle hands have, at last, got something to spin out.
Thanks to
Maharashtra Gram Vikas
Khadi Va Gram Udyog Mandal, Amravati, which has set up a
solar spinning
wheel centre there, as many as 220 women are now engaged in spinning
thread on 60 wheels at the centre.
Guardian minister Pravin Pote, who inaugurated the centre recently in presence of constituency MLA Yashomati Thakur, said that this is an endeavour to empower rural women through self-employment.
“We installed the centre here with 60 units and trained 220 women on them. Now, they are
spinning out thread, using the solar wheels. This will strengthen their economy,” said district village industry officer Chechare.
“The centre has opened up the prospects of self-employment for Pusda women, who can now support their families,” said Yashomati Thakur.
Pusda sarpanch Sheela Ingle and deputy sarpanch MK Deshmukh were a happy lot. “We wanted to do something for the women of our village. We are more than happy to see our dream coming true,” they told TOI.
Twenty-two villages from 11 tehsils in the district have been selected for installation of such centres.
