Mayawati slams PM, UP CM for atrocities on minorities

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Thursday slammed the Modi government at the Centre and the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for having an anti-dalit mentality.

Talking to reporters here, Ms Mayawati said that both the government were to be blamed for their failure to check atrocities on dalits and Muslims. She said that atrocities on dalits and Muslims had increased manifold in the Modi and Akhilesh Yadav regimes and the statistics prove this.

“The probe into the suicide of Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad is yet to begin and the Prime Minister getting emotional at the mention of the incident is a political gimmick,” she said.

The BSP president said that Muslims were also at the receiving end in the Modi regime and Union ministers and leaders continue to make derogatory statements regarding the minority community.

She said that the recent statement of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, in which she sought a review of the reservation policy, reflected the ideology of the BJP and was a part of a conspiracy to end the reservation policy.

“The Modi government is encouraging a Hindu-Muslim clash in order to polarise voters on religious lines,” she alleged.

Ms Mayawati also expressed her anger at the Maharashtra government’s failure to ensure the entry of women in temples. “This is yet another example of the anti-Dalit and anti-women mentality of the BJP”, she pointed out and added that another example was the attempt to take away the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Milia Islamia.

Ms Mayawati said that the priests of temples where women are not permitted should be made to realise that it was a woman who gave them birth.

Lashing out at the Akhilesh government, she said that it was rooted in corruption and criminalization and SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav recently admitted that his ministers were involved in money making business.
