Two engineering students die in Kancheepuram road accident

Two engineering college students were killed when an unidentified speeding vehicle hit a two-wheeler they were riding on in Kancheepuram on Wednesday night.

CHENNAI: Two engineering college students were killed when an unidentified speeding vehicle hit a two-wheeler they were riding on in Kancheepuram on Wednesday night.
Police identified the deceased as C Hemnath, 19, a second year engineering student at Peri Institute of Technology in Tambaram, and K Rajesh, 21, a fourth year engineering student at the Thirumalai Engineering College at Kilambi.
Hemnath was the son of Poonguzhali, a fingerprint bureau police inspector in Kancheepuram.
Police said the accident happened near the revenue divisional office (RDO) at 9.30pm. Hemnath and Rajesh were not wearing helmets, and both of them suffered head injuries.
Passersby sent them to the government hospital in Kancheepuram where doctors declared them brought dead.
The Kancheepuram police registered a case and launched a hunt for the vehicle which hit them and sped away. “We have collected CCTV footages from traffic signals near the accident spot to trace the vehicle,” a police officer said.
