Panchkula: Haryana chief parliamentary secretary Bakshish Singh Virk unfurled the national flag at the Republic Day function at Parade Ground in Sector 5 here.
Virk inspected the troops and saluted the march past. Family members of freedom fighters and martyrs were honored during the ceremony. "We cannot forget the special role of freedom fighters and the martyrs who gave their lives after a long struggle," Virk said.
A cultural programme was also organized and the students of all schools and colleges who participated in the cultural event were given Rs 1.5 lakh as award by Virk and a holiday on January 27.
Panchkula legislator Gian Chand Gupta, Kalka MLA Latika Sharma, mayor Upendra Kaur Ahluwalia, Ambala-Panchkula commissioner of police OP Singh, deputy commissioner Mandeep Singh Brar, director of the department of industry and commerce Vivek Atray, and deputy commissioner of police Anil Kumar Dhawan also attended the event.
Haryana Transport Corporation general manager Pradyuman Singh unfurled the national flag at Government College of Kalka and took the salute for Republic Day celebrations.
