Ludhiana: Cyclists from the city celebrated Republic Day with a ride from Harike Pattan to Hussainiwala Indo-Pak border in Ferozepur. Another group of cyclists also went on a ride in the city to celebrate the occasion.
"In all, we were 60 riders, 40 of these riders were from the city whereas 20 others joined us in Ferozepur. We wore turbans in Bhagat Singh style.
We not only celebrated the day by paying homage to martyrs, but also spread the idea of protecting the environment," said Jagdeep Singh Bita, a businessman from Haibowal in the city.
He further said they had organised the ride to Harike Pattan as the wet land is the only bird sanctuary in the state and was good place for spreading the message of protecting the environment.
"Cycling is an activity that can help reduce the ever increasing pollution levels and thus can go a long way in protecting the environment," said Bita.
Akashdeep Bassi, a businessman from Chandigarh road, said they went from Harike Pattan to Hussainiwala and on the way they were welcomed by 20 riders from Ferozepur who not only went along with them to Hussainiwala border but also took them to various parts of the city to spread awareness about cycling. "It was a great feeling and all the riders enjoyed themselves thoroughly," said Bassi.
