Distressing testimonies from women who have suffered and seen others suffer domestic violence has left the Duchess of Cornwall visibly moved.
The wife of Prince Charles visited London's SaveLives charity on Wednesday, and listened to five women share their stories on domestic violence.
After the women had spoken, Camilla thanked them.
"All of you going around and talking about it does create awareness," she said.
Red, watery eyes were visible as Camilla heard Rachel Williams recall her horrifying experience.
After 18 years of abuse, 43-year-old Ms Williams filed for divorce, but not before her husband shot her in the legs.
"I had the presence of mind to pull my legs up to my chest as he took aim and fired the first shot was taken by my leg, which has left me with life altering injuries. Thankfully the second shot just missed my head," she said.
But it was all too much for her 16-year-old son who struggled to come to terms with what his father had done and six weeks later, took his own life.
"Jack took his life at just 16 years of age because he could not cope with what his father had done to me," Ms Williams said.
Unlike many Royals in the past who have chosen to raise awareness on "safer" subjects, the Duchess of Cornwall has been an activist for raising the profile for matters such as domestic violence that are fenced with ignorance.
Although the Prince and his wife, who celebrated their 10-year anniversary in 2015 were only in Australia for six days last November, Camilla took part in a round table discussion about family violence in Adelaide, speaking to 2015 Australian of the Year and violence survivor Rosie Batty.
Telling Ms Batty that she was "incredibly brave" as she recalled how her son Luke was killed by his father in 2014, the Duchess urged the public to speak out on the serious topic. "It is a difficult thing to report," she said. "People sometimes think they're not going to be believed. A lot of people feel shame, so they sit on it for years."
According to the ABS 2015 Domestic Violence report, there were 95 cases of domestic violence homicides in Australia last year, and nearly 54,000 domestic violence reported cases, not even including numbers from Victoria or Queensland.
With research indicating that only one in two domestic violence cases go reported, there's still a long way to go.
When Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull stepped in last year, he promised a $100 million package to implement new measures to alleviate domestic violence.
As his first major spending, he said that "we must elevate this issue to our national consciousness, and make it clear that domestic, family or sexual violence is unacceptable in any circumstances".
Domestic violence is an issue that isn't going away anytime soon. But with the help and support, hopefully the large statistics will decrease.
As for Camilla, she isn't going to stop raising awareness anytime soon.
"I want to help in any way I can."
