LEH/KARGIL, Jan 27: Amidst freezing temperature, the 67th Republic Day was celebrated in Leh and Kargil districts with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
At Leh, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo unfurled the National Tri-colour and took salute at march past amidst the gathering of thousands of people and parade contingent. The programme was attended by all the Executive Councilors and Councilors of LAHDC and district officers headed by ADC Leh R K Badyal and SSP Leh Dr Sunil Gupta.
In his address, CEC said that present Council without wasting any time started trying its level best to fulfill all the aspirations of people with the support of all the Government employees headed by Deputy Commissioner, Leh and hoped that they will come up to the expectation of people in time to come.
Underlining the achievements of present Council in last three months, CEC made a mention of their visit to Delhi and Jammu recently where they took various issues and problems of Leh district very strongly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the then Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and concerned ministries”, adding “due to this number of projects have been sanctioned and many are at the stage of sanctioning”.
Talking about the incomplete projects, Dr Dawa hoped that all these pending projects will be completed by present Council in shortest possible time. He said that due to the continuous follow-up of LAHDC regarding limited air transport facilities for Leh especially during winter months, the services of Jet and GoAir will be resumed with additional flights in the month of February.
Talking about the extension of Alchi Hydel Project transmission line to the other parts of Leh district, Dr Dawa said that Government has already decided to connect Nyoma and Nubra region with the Alchi Hydel Project transmission line and linking up of Durbuk block with same transmission line is under consideration.
At Kargil, CEC Haji Hanifa Jan hoisted the National Flag at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang and paid homage to those brave soldiers, who laid down their lives for the service of the nation.
Thanking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sanctioning Rs 9090 crore for Zojjila Tunnel, 2700 for Kargil-Zanskar road, cold storage and Pashmina Development Project, Haji Hanifa said that during his recent visit he has requested the Union Finance Minister to include the package for flood affected areas in the Prime Minister’s Package.
Giving a brief overview of the achievements of the present Hill Council, Haji Haneefa Jan said that Council has tried its best to curb the menace of unemployment and out of the vacant 1200 posts in various departments in the district, 400 posts has been filled and 120 other posts will be filled very soon.
He urged the people to uphold the virtues of the age old communal harmony and brotherhood for peace and prosperity of the State. He also emphasized the need of cooperation between the Government and the masses in the implementation of the innumerable developmental schemes for their timely completion for early benefits of the people.
Prominent among others present on the occasion, included Executive Councillor Syed Abass Razvi, Mohsin Ali, Councillors, Deputy Commiss-ioner Kargil, Kacho Hassan Khan, Station Director AIR Kargil Suresh Kumar, Brigadier 121 Infantry Brigade, Superintendent of Police Kargil Rahul Malik, senior civil and army officers and prominent political and civil persons of Kargil.
