Much awaited snowfall brings smile to farmers

LEH, Jan 27: The entire Ladakh region engulfed in a white blanket of snowfall this morning as the region experienced light snowfall since yesterday which brings smile on the face of farmers. It is the first snowfall of this season in region affecting the normal life, air connectively and road transport in the region.
The city of Leh and its outskirt has been experiencing light snowfall since yesterday thus forcing the people to stay indoors. Even the flight connectivity the only mode to travel during winter to stay in connected with the rest of the world were badly affected due to snowfall. KBR Leh Airport Authority sources informed that Srinagar-Le bound flight got cancelled however two Indian Airlines and Go Air flight able to land with much delay.
Due to the snowfall temperature is expected to drop down to return the cold weather conditions again. Similarly Drass Sub Division in Kargil district which is the world second coldest place reportedly received two and half inches of snow when last report received this morning.
After long spell of dry weather, Ladakh has finally received the first fresh snowfall of this season today. The snowfall that would help to rebuild the shrinking glacier is the only source of water in this cold desert of Himalayan for cultivating the farming activity in the region thus such snowfall has brought smile on the people particularly to the farmers. People faced trouble in the morning due to slippery road and many were forced to walk bumping their vehicles in the middle due to slippery road and number of vehicle collisions took place but no major incident was reported.
Meanwhile, as per Police Control Room information the world highest Motorable road Khardong la Pass (5603 Meters) which serves as the lifeline for Nobra region reportedly received nearly 6 inches of snow and the road remained closed till late afternoon. Similarly Changla Pass remained closed for vehicular traffic till later afternoon today.
