Rs 1,213 crore contract awarded for Vadodara-JNPT-Mumbai freight corridor route

In a major development the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Corporation of India Limited has awarded a contract for electrification of the 422 km long railway section of the freight corridor between Vadodara and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Mumbai) of Western DFC.

AHMEDABAD: In a major development the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Corporation of India Limited has awarded a contract for electrification of the 422 km long railway section of the freight corridor between Vadodara and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Mumbai) of Western DFC. The contract has been awarded to a joint Indo-Japanese consortium of Sojitz Corporation, Japan and Larsen and Toubro Ltd.
The contract is worth Rs 1,213 crore as per a press release by DFCCIL.
The DFCCIL has already placed contracts for the electrification of its 1,337-km-route between Rewari to JNPT (Mumbai) of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). The work includes design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 2×25 kv overhead equipments, traction sub-stations, auxiliary stations, switching stations and auto transformer stations.
DFCC, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), is engaged in planning, construction, operation and maintenance of the dedicated freight corridors and in the first phase, the two corridors, namely Eastern Corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni (1840 Kms) and Western Corridor from Dadri to Jawahar Lal Nehru Port (JNPT) (1502 Kms) are being constructed.
