AFP pins blame on Napeñas for Mamasapano debacle

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Wednesday pinned the blame on former Special Action Force (SAF) commander Getulio Napeñas, for the deaths of 44 of his men during the infamous Mamasapano clash of 2015.

During a Senate hearing, Maj. Gen. Angelito de Leon, the military's deputy chief of staff for operations, showed a PowerPoint presentation detailing its position.

The presentation showed a picture of a smiling Napeñas still in civilian clothes, purportedly hours after the debacle.

De Leon said Napeñas seemed "detached from the reality of the SAF operation" and "unaware of the magnitude of the SAF casualties."

Napeñas has denied that he was smiling when the picture was taken.
