Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Van Persie, Pato, Remy, Ayew, Hazard, Teixeira

The name Robin van Persie once struck fear into Premier League defenders, but the Dutchman’s stock appears to have fallen to the point that he is now regarded as a back-up to Alexandre Pato. The Express reports that Chelsea are considering ending RVP’s “miserable” spell at Turkish side Fenerbahce, but only if their move for the Brazilian striker doesn’t come off.

Pato is in London to seal a loan move to Stamford Bridge, reveals the Standard, but there are doubts over his fitness because he hasn’t played since the Brazilian league ended in November.

The arrival of either player could signal the end of Loic Remy’s Chelsea career, although the Mail says Newcastle have been quoted a rather steep £12m to sign the Frenchman.

The Magpies’ other principal striking target, Saido Berahino, is back on the radar of Tottenham, who the Mirror claims will make a final bid to sign the West Brom man for £18m before next Monday’s deadline.

The Guardian reports that Spurs have failed in a bid to sign Fulham forward Moussa Dembele, which is probably good news for their midfielder Mousa Dembele and for the general sanity of everyone else at White Hart Lane. Worryingly though, a strong chance remains that Spurs will sign Dembele (the Fulham one) in the summer when his contract expires.

Sunderland want Swansea’s Andre Ayew so much that you wonder why they didn’t just try to buy him six months ago, because it would have saved them a lot of money. Talksport says the Black Cats have increased their offer for the Ghanaian to £10m plus Fabio Borini, who cost £8m in the summer whereas Ayew was free. In other words, that’s £18m down the toilet. At least it would be if Swansea were prepared to sell Ayew, which the South Wales Evening Post maintains that they are not.

If Ayew does end up the leaving, the Express reports that the Swans will just sign Jonathan de Guzman on loan for the millionth time. The Dutchman is currently at Napoli, where he can’t get in the team.

Leicester seem to have earmarked Sampdoria striker Eder as the man who can help them win the league, with the Mail reporting that the Foxes have lodged an increased bid of £10m for the 29-year-old Italy international, an initial £8m offer having been rejected.

If that one doesn’t work out, the Mirror reports that Claudio Ranieri will switch his attention to CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa, although the Russians apparently want £19m for the Nigerian.

Chelsea will demand £80m for Eden Hazard if they sell him in the summer, claims the Sun, while the Belgian’s potential long-term replacement Alex Teixeira appears to be edging closer to a move to Liverpool, says the Express.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have had a bid for Napoli’s Brazilian midfielder Jorginho rejected (the Metro), Middlesbrough have offered £12m for Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes (the Sun) and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is “highly likely” to quit Goodison Park for Colorado Rapids in May (NBC Sports).
