Not allowed to marry, lovers kill themselves
New Delhi: Unhappy with their parents for not allowing them to marry, an 18-year-old youth and his girlfriend allegedly committed suicide in their houses in central Delhi's Ranjit Nagar on Tuesday afternoon. No suicide note has been recovered from either of the deceased. Inquest proceedings have been initiated into the cause of death.
The youth, Mohammad Ayub stayed in lane number 5 in Ranjit Nagar and worked at a factory producing handwash.
He quit his studies after his father's death and took up the job to support his mother and sister who have recently arrived from their village in Bihar. Family members told the cops that he was in love with a girl named Gudiya staying in the locality.
Around noon, when Ayub's sister called him several times to come home for lunch she realised something amiss. She said that other factory workers told her that he had not joined work in the morning. She then went to his room and found him hanging from the grill of a window. She called the police who rushed Ayub to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
While they were dealing with this case, the cops received another call from lane number 12 about a girl committing suicide in a similar way. She was identified as Gudiya. The girl's family said that Gudiya had told them about her love for Ayub, but they refused to get her married to him since he did not earn much. This had led to an argument between the girl and her parents after which she went to meet Ayub.
Police suspect the duo planned the suicide and went back to their houses to execute it.
