TNS winding-up order dismissed

TNS winding-up order dismissed

Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints FC (TNS) have said their financial position is "extremely healthy" after a winding-up petition against the club was dismissed.

The High Court dismissed the petition from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) at a hearing yesterday (25 January 2015).

The club announced on Friday that they were "shocked" after being served with a winding-up order and were "unsure" who the petition was from.

In a statement, Ian Williams, chief operating office of TNS, said: "The club, following its cup final win on Saturday, can now focus on matters on the pitch and reassures all stakeholders that the club is in an extremely healthy financial position as it aims to retain its Welsh Premier League title."

In a statement, HMRC said: "HMRC does not comment on the tax affairs of individual businesses. Our aim is to efficiently collect the debts due and to prevent things deteriorating further. We only initiate winding-up action where we believe this is the best way to protect both the interests of other taxpayers and creditors.

"Anyone who anticipates payment problems should call us as early as possible as we have an outstanding track record for supporting those with genuine problems."

TNS are the defending Welsh Premier League champions and celebrated victory in the Word Cup after beating Denbigh Town on Saturday (23 January).
