FieldSpec® Dual collection software simplifies the field spectral collection process

ASD, a PANalytical company, a global leader in high-performance NIR analytical instrumentation and material analysis solutions, has introduced, the FieldSpec Dual collection software system, the world’s first commercially available full-range (350 – 2,500 nm) field solution that enables collection of high-quality reflectance spectra even under variable sky conditions. By automating and synchronising the collection of white reference and target radiance measurements between two field spectrometers, the influence of time-varying atmospheric conditions is minimised.

“The wait for ideal atmospheric conditions for data collection can be frustrating and a significant challenge,” said Brian Curtiss, CTO and co-founder of ASD. “With the FieldSpec Dual collection system, the ‘ideal data collection window’ is expanded, making collection viable on days where it wasn’t previously possible.”

The FieldSpec Dual collection software system leverages the value and utility of a popular line of portable field spectrometers. By inter-calibrating and synchronising two full-range instruments to operate as a complete spectral data collection ecosystem, the software offers a radical improvement to the workflow and data quality paradigm of traditional field spectroscopy:

  • Reduces inherent errors introduced by time-varying atmospheric conditions and minimizes manual reference measurements
  • Greatly increases opportunities for field data collection
  • Delivers an unprecedented level of confidence in the quality of data collected using solar illumination
  • Simplifies the spectral collection workflow for goniometer research and bidirectional reflectance studies
  • Increases efficiency and accuracy of vicarious sensor calibration and validation measurements.

Compatible instruments include all ASD FieldSpec 4 spectroradiometers and FieldSpec 3 spectroradiometers with serial numbers 16178 and higher.
