Tollywood director S S Rajamouli of “Bahubali” fame gets Padma Sri
HYDERABAD: Director S S Rajamouli, who made waves with his blockbuster film “Bahubali’, has been awarded the Padma Sri by the centre.
For someone who began his career dabbling in television making serials and graduating to making films and becoming a name to reckon with, it has been remarkable journey for Rajamouli.
A meticulous planner who gives the story the utmost importance in his films, Rajamouli has churned out some of the biggest hits in Tollywood in recent times.
For the 42-year-old writer-director, cinematography with special effects are as important as the heart of the film – the story. The actors come only next but get their due importance to bring his characters to life.
Born in Raichur of Karnataka, Srisaila Sri Rajamouli studied in Eluru. But taking interest in films was only natural as his father K Vijayendra Prasad is a well-known film writer. From making tele serials, Rajamouli directed his first film starring Jr NTR. The film “Student no. 1” was also the actor’s debut film which went on to become a hit.
Rajamouli who conceives his entire film – from the start to the finish – gets to shoot what exactly he plans. His “Magadheera” starring Ram Charan Tej won the national award for best special effects in 2009. He also won the best director award for the film. Rajamouli bagged attention when his film “Eega”, which was a huge hit, won the national award for the best regional film in Telugu. “Chatrapathi”, “Magadheera”, “Vikramarkudu”, “Yamadonga”, “Sye”, “Rajanna”, “Maryadana Ramanna” and his 2015 film “Bahubali” put him on a higher pedestal than his peers. “Bahubali” turned out to be the second biggest grosser in the Indian film industry itself. He is currently working on a sequel to “Bahubali”.
