Woman, son fall to death
Surat: A 27-year-old woman fell to her death along with her five-year-old son from their apartment on the seventh floor of a building in Udhna area of the city on Sunday. They were shifted to New Civil Hospital (NCH) but doctors declared them dead. Police, who registered a case of accidental death, found in their preliminary investigation that the woman may have jumped off the building with her son.
Mittal Patel and Yug were residents of B-701 of Sardar Palace. Neighbours told police that they saw Yug on the air-conditioner unit outside the apartment's window grill which normally remains locked. "Neighbours said the woman fell while trying to save the child but that is not possible since the boy could not have opened the grill's lock. Circumstantial evidence suggests that the woman committed suicide, but we can only reach a conclusion after carrying out a detailed investigation," said B S Mori, police inspector, Udhna.
Mittal's husband Kinjal has a machinery parts shop on Udhna-Magdalla Road and was not at home. The couple was married for six years. No member of Mittal's family has so far hinted at marital discord, police said.
Mittal's brother told police that there were no differences between the couple to suggest she committed suicide because of that. The family members had gone to their close relative's place on Saturday for a social function, police informed.
Mittal's mother was in Haridwar. Police will register her statement upon her return and begin checking mobile phone call details of family members.
"There were no differences between the couple as per their neighbours. The neighbours claim to have heard nothing on Sunday as well. Mittal's brother too says the couple led a normal life. We are awaiting Mittal's mother to return from Haridwar to register her statement," Mori added.
