A 40-year-old man lost his life after falling into a nullah near Bhayander station, where fire brigade officials were busy extracting a decomposed body. The incident occurred on Saturday evening.

While the Navghar cops are yet to ascertain the identity of the man who slipped into the nullah, the decomposed body was identified to be of 36-year-old Girgaum resident Motilal Jugal Pandit.
Cops claimed Pandit’s identity was ascertained based on the Aadhar card and a bank passbook that was found on the body. Pandit also had Rs 5,500 on him.
Fatal fall
Pandit’s body was first spotted by a passer-by, who saw an arm floating in the nullah and informed the cops immediately. After the news spread about the fire brigade extracting a body, locals thronged the nullah. It was then that the 40-year-old unidentified man lost his balance and slipped into the 25-foot nullah after he leaned in to see what was happening. By the time he was pulled out, the man had breathed his last. Both the bodies were later sent to Bhagwati hospital for autopsy.

“I saw a decomposed body in the nullah and immediately informed the police. An onlooker lost his balance and slipped into the nullah,” said an eyewitness.
Cops speak
Sub-inspector Laxman Shrawan Ghane from Navghar police station said, “The fire brigade officers tried to save the man who fell into the nullah, but it was too late. We registered two Accidental Death Reports (ADRs). We are yet to ascertain the second victim’s identity, as nothing was found on him.”
