The police on Saturday registered a case against an Assistant Professor in Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women on the charge of submitting a fake Ph.D. certificate for joining the college.

In a recent complaint to the police, the college principal M. Jayanthi Violet said that E. Josephine Kamelia (38) had joined the college in the Department of Botany in 2011 by stating that her qualification was a doctoral degree holder.

Her Ph.D certificate when sent to the Bihar University for verification, revealed that it was fake. She was not coming to college now, nor she could be contacted, the principal said. The police have registered a case under Section 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 420 (cheating) of IPC.
