What you need to know:

Forgiven. The DP president says he has forgiven the former prime minister for the wrongs committed in northern Uganda while he was chief minister.

Gulu. Democratic Party president Norbert Mao has said he forgave presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi for what might have gone wrong in northern Uganda while he was still in government.
“Many of you are saying that Mr Mbabazi did a lot of bad things to northerners, but I know a lot about him than you. I was able to put that aside when he came to me and apologised for the sake of the future of this country”, he said.

While campaigning for DP candidate for Gulu Municipality seat, Mr Leander Komakech, at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu Town on Friday, Mr Mao also disclosed that he and the UPC president, Mr Olara Otunnu, agreed with Mr Mbabazi that once Mr Mbabazi is elected president, he will support his (Mao’s) 2021 presidential bid when Mr Mbabazi’s term expires.
Mr Mbabazi was, among others, accused of poor supervision when Shs1.4 billion under Peace Recovery and Development Plan meant to eradicate poverty in northern Uganda was swindled while he was still the prime minister.

Expressing his confidence in Mr Mbabazi, Mr Mao said: “Since venom is used to treat a septic bite from a poisonous snake, Mr Mbabazi knows President Museveni’s weakest point since they worked together in government for a long time”.
Mr Komakech asked the locals to vote him, arguing that he is the only person who can steer development in the area. He promised to advocate vocational skills training so that the youth can improve their household income level.
Other contestants in the Gulu Municipality race are NRM’s Timothy Jokene, Mr Wilfred Okello (FDC) and independents Mr George Aligech, Mr Kilama Komakech, Mr Uhuru Francis and Mr Kenneth Odoch.
