Armed robbers strike at Yavatmal architect’s house
Yavatmal: A three-member gang, armed with pistols and lethal weapons, barged into the residence of architect SatishPhatak on Saturday and made away with valuables. Incidentally, the house where robbery took place is just a few meters away from Yavatmal rural police station on the national highway.
When contacted, the police station officer of Wadgaon police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, Balkrishna Jadhav said that they received a complaint from Phatak and accordingly registered a case under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 of IPC.

According to the police, the burglars barged into Phatak’s residence in Shrikrishna Nagar when the owner Satish was away for some work and his wife Sharmila was alone in the house. The miscreants threatened Sharmila at gunpoint and dragged her to the locker room and asked for the keys. On finding only pearl chains in the locker, the miscreants threw it away and threatened Sharmila again demanding gold ornaments and cash. When the housewife told the goons that she has only 2,000 cash and a three-tola mangalsutra, the infuriated burglars tied Sharmila to a chair, gagged her with a tape and fled the scene with the valuables. The burglars also took away the SIM card from Sharmila’s mobile, CCTV’s memory card and the set top box.
Sharmila somehow managed to untie her hands from the chair and moved on to the backyard. She saw a boy passing by and shouted for help. She asked the boy to contact her husband on mobile and narrated the incident to him. Satish rushed to the house and later lodged a complaint with the police.
Sharmila told the police that one of the burglars was wearing a mask and the trio was speaking in Hindi.
Satish is a close relative of the former principal secretary Jayraj Phatak.
