Thirty-six new officers joined the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) after a 50-week rigorous training at a colourful passing-out parade and attestation ceremony held at the ITBP ground in Mussoorie today. Padma Shri IG of the ITBP Harbhajan Singh, who was chief guest, was presented with the ceremonial guard of honour and review of the parade. He gave away citations and trophies to the trainees for their excellent performances during the course in different streams.
Harbhajan congratulated the newly inducted officers and wished them a bright career in the force. He hoped the new officers would serve with utmost responsibility and bring laurels to the ITBP and the country.
The IG highlighted the achievements of the ITBP and said it was formed after the 1962 war with China and is one of the most outstanding forces in the world that is serving in extreme geographical conditions with utmost integrity and honesty. Besides, it has become one of the elite forces in the world.
“The training imparted at the ITBP Academy has made the trainees adept in war tactics so that they could face the challenges in hostile conditions with utmost skill and ease, he added.
Harbhajan said the ITBP was ready to face challenges, both internal and external. Earlier, DIG, ITBP, Devendar Singh welcomed all and said the day was important for the newly inducted officers and their families.
Nitish Singh was adjudged the overall best trainee and was awarded the Sword of Honour and a winning cup. Him Prabhat Takur was adjudged the best marksman, Praveen Kumar the best conduct trainee, Ashutosh the best sportsman, Sanjay Pathania the best endurance trainee and Adil Rai the best trainee for indoor activities. Medical Officer Harish was awarded for excelling in all round activities.
Out of the 36 passing out officers, 21 were from Telangana, four each from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, three from Madhya Pradesh, two each from West Bengal and Punjab, and one each from Nagaland, Rajashtan, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Fifteen officers from the medical stream, three each from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, two each from Himachal and Haryana, one each from Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra were among those who were inducted into the ITBP today.
Later the parents of the officers also took part in the piping ceremony that concluded with a thrilling karate display by jawans.
