Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant, four associates arrested in Sopore: Police

Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday claimed to have arrested a militant of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit along with his four associates.Giving details during a press conference in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, an official said that the arrests were made after police and 52 RR laid a search operation near Sangrama forest check-post after specific inputs.“An active militant of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen outfit, Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi was arrested during the operation,” said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) north Kashmir Gareeb Dass.He added that four associates of the militant, who were involved in grenades-throwing incidents in downtown Srinagar, were also arrested.“Arms and ammunition have been recovered from them, which include some pistols and Chinese hand grenades,” said Dass.He claimed the militants were planning an attack on Srinagar-Baramulla highway on the upcoming 26 January function.
