Campaign intensifies for GHMC elections

After a three-day hiatus as different political parties were busy trying to convince rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, the major political parties have re-intensified their election campaign.

HYDERABAD: After a three-day hiatus as different political parties were busy trying to convince rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, the major political parties have re-intensified their election campaign.
The major political parties, the TRS, Congress, TDP , BJP and the MIM have plans to conduct road shows, live telecast shows and major public meetings towards the end of the campaign apart from the doorto-door campaign by the candidates.

TRS president and chief mi nister K Chandrasekhar Rao will address and interact with people from various localities through live shows on big screens, to be installed at various locations in the city. “Since road shows by TRS president KCR may lead to traffic chaos in the city, we have decided to conduct the live shows. Towards the end of the campaign, the chief minister will address such public meetings on January 30 and 31,“ IT and panchayat raj minister K T Rama Rao told TOI on Friday .
He said the schedule for the proposed live shows by KCR has not yet been finalised. Rama Rao said “I am planning to cover about 115 of the 150 divisions from January 23 to 28“.
Apart from KTR, the party roped in minsters from other districts. For instance, finance minister Etela Rajender and irrigation minister T Harish Rao are taking up padayatras in their allotted assembly constituencies.
Meanwhile, the Congress party's campaign is yet to peak with the exception of some leaders such as leader of opposi tion in the legislative council Mohammad Ali Shabbir taking up padayatras and some other leaders holding meetings in so me divisions.

“The party is mainly focus sing on door-to-door campaign and state leaders have been al lotted some assembly constitu encies to campaign along with the local candidates,“ Telanga na Congress Committee presi dent N Uttam Kumar Reddy told TOI. He said public mee tings would be conducted on Ja nuary 30 and 31which will be at tended by AICC leaders Digvi jay Singh and Gulam Nabi Azad. Interestingly, Congress par ty has decided to utilise the ser vices of its Seemandhra lea ders to campaign in the areas where Seemandhra people are concentrated such as Kukatpally , Dilsukhnagar, AS Rao Nagar and Uppal areas.
The TDP and BJP , as allies, have plans for jo int campaigns and also indivi dually . While the TDP is contes ting in 92 wards, BJP is contes ting in 68 wards. As per the seat sharing agreement, the TDP should have fielded its candida tes in 87 divisions and BJP in 63.
But they gave B-forms to five candidates each additionally .
The incidents at the Univer sity of Hyderabad (UoH), delay in seat sharing and nomination process put brakes on the TDP and BJP campaign.
“The campaign will be in tensified now and will cover all the divisions. Joint public mee tings will be conducted in the last week of this month,“ a BJP leader said.
Meanwhile former MLA Prem Singh Rathore, who resig ned for the party yesterday over the allotment of tickets, has withdrawn his resignation on the advise of the party leadership.
