January 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 02:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

Killing of stray dogs is against animal welfare rules and if noticed, action should be taken against those involved in the act, State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has said and issued directions in this regard to the Superintendent of Police, Tiruvallur.

SHRC member Jayanthi passed the order based on a complaint filed by People for Cattle in India alleging that on November 17, 2015 over 150 stray dogs were killed by six men employed by the panchayat head of Thamaraipakkam village in Tiruvallur district.

Carcasses of 10 stray dogs were also found near the premises of an engineering college in Padappai, Kancheepuram district, the complaint added.
