The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is planning to collaborate with the Lakshadweep administration for extending to the island the 24x7 advisory call centre facilities of the e-Vet connect project.
Addressing the valedictory function of a poultry entrepreneurship training programme organised by the university on its Mannuthy campus on Friday, T.P. Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU, said that under the project, farmers and entrepreneurs of the island would be able to access the call centre to get advice on scientific livestock farming. The call centre would answer all queries related to breeding, feeding, management, disease control, marketing, and consultancy services. The Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Department of Animal Husbandry in Kavaratti would work together in the project.
Disease forecasting
On the knowledge management portal www.evetconnect.org, disease forecasting system and vetipedia would be available, Dr. Sethumadhavan said.
KVASU’s publications and entrepreneurship development programme would be made accessible to farmers of Lakshadweep, he said.
Sisiliyamma George, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, inaugurated the programme. Leo Joseph, Director, Centre for Advanced Studies in Poultry Science, Mannuthy, presided. Twenty farmers attended the five-day programme.
