MVA pays out N$777,000 over festive season
The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund paid N$777,000 towards funeral grants during the festive season for 111 claims that were submitted out of the 114, compared to N$658,000 paid for funeral claims during the same period in 2014/2015.
Fulfilling its legal obligation in terms of sections 23 and 25 of the MVA Fund Act of 2007 to provide medical support to persons injured in motor vehicle crashes, the MVA Fund has thus far accepted to disburse N$16,128,420.38 for medical expenses during the 2015/2016 festive season.
Such medical costs of the injured in crashes range from at-scene to recovery or death, and include first-aid and rescue service (ambulances), hospital costs and the final stage of rehabilitation care costs which is included in these figures according to the MVA.
During the same period in 2014/2015, the Fund disbursed N$19,829,059.18 which indicates an 18% decrease in medical expenses for the 2015/2016 cycle the MVA Fund reported.
“It is noteworthy that the cost indicated for medical expenses during the 2015/2016 festive season will potentially increase as some medical service providers are yet to submit their claims for services rendered during the period under review,” the MVA Fund said.
“Many road crashes and their resulting injuries or fatalities are preventable, and should each road user take responsibility and drastically change their behaviour by adhering to the set rules of the road, Namibia can also be classified as one of the safe countries as other nations are classified,” the MVA Fund advised.
