Driver, associate held with 40 kgs banned forest produce

KISHTWAR, Jan 21: Police nabbed a driver and his associate along with 40 kilograms of banned forest produce (nagchatri) from Dar Bridge area, falling under the jurisdiction of Chatroo police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Chatroo police station laid a naka near Dar Bridge and signaled a Qualis car bearing registration number JK17-2185 to stop for checking, which was coming from village Qwarth to Kishtwar.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking of the vehicle, police recovered 40 kilograms of banned forest produce (nagchatri) and arrested two persons.
The accused have been identified as Shakir Hussain, son of Mohammad Ayub, a resident of Beigpura Cherhar, Kishtwar and Gulshan Ahmed, son of Abdul Shahbhan, a resident of Berwar, Kishtwar.
A case under FIR Number 4/16 under Section 379 RPC and 6 Forest Act has been registered at police station Chatroo and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Chatroo police station Inspector Ravi Kant made the arrest under the supervision of SSP Kishwar Sandeep Wazir.
