Remya plays an artist in her Tamil film
Actress Remya Nambeesan has never shied away from trying out different roles ' be it the item girl in Bachelor Party or the doting mother in Philips and the Monkey Pen. Her latest Tamil film, Sethupathy, will see her as an artist.
The movie has her sharing the screen with her Pizza co-star Vijay Sethupathy. 'Remya plays Vijay's wife in the film,' says its director S U Arun Kumar.
And interestingly, Remya's character isn't given a name as the film doesn't warrant it, he adds. 'Her husband refers to her as pondatty (wife) and kids as amma throughout the movie. But her character isn't the usual, traditional homemaker in Tamil movies. She is an urban mother who is also an artist. There are a lot of scenes showing her affinity for art.' The movie is basically an action-thriller but will showcase the couple's 'romantic family life' too.
On casting the Malayali actress for the movie, Arun says, 'Remya was game for taking up a mother role unlike many others who hesitate to take up such characters. She is professional, confident and talented. Moreover, she has a wonderful chemistry with Vijay Sethupathy.' The duo's 2012 movie Pizza, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was critically acclaimed.
Rumours are also rife that Remya, who croons for most of her films, will go behind the microphone in the Tamil film too. However, Arun quashes all speculations, saying, 'Not in this movie.'
