Video: Moroccan Man Pretends To Be Syrian To Seek Asylum In Germany

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) ;">New York – A video posted on YouTube on Tuesday shows a Moroccan man pretending to be a Syrian refugee in order to seek asylum in Germany.

The footage begins when a German citizen most likely an NGO Refugee Assistance volunteer asks the Moroccan man to disclose his country of origin.

The Moroccan outright lies to the German man reassuring him that he is from Syria and that he has family in Sweden.

The Moroccan is trying to impersonate a Syrian refugee to be granted refugee status in the European country known for its 'open-borders' policy.

When the German asks him to show his alleged Syrian identity papers he claims to have lost them.

However one of the migrants in the group a Moroccan man also tells the German citizen that the fake Syrian refugee is indeed Moroccan and that he knows him from Morocco.

One of the biggest problems facing Germany is the influx of migrants from other countries mainly Morocco and Algeria that have entered the Bavarian country alongside Syrian refugees.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is being pressured to close Germany's borders following the violence that has hit the country in recent months especially the mass sexual attacks in Cologne on December 31 mostly perpetrated by alleged refugees.

The video shows the problem which has forced the German government to threaten a suspension of foreign aid to Morocco if it does not cooperate in taking back its nationals whose refugee status get rejected.

'These countries receive economic aid from Germany but in turn refuse to cooperate on this issue. This is unacceptable' German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said on Tuesday regarding Morocco and Algeria.

Statistics claim that almost 40 percent of Moroccans who have entered Germany as refugees have reportedly committed criminal acts.

Moroccan media revealed on Tuesday that the German government will pass a legislation to expel Moroccan and Algerian immigrants and send them to detentions centers for deportation.

In a recent meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel and Horst Seehofer Governor of Bavaria classified Morocco and Algeria as 'safe countries' whose nationals will not qualify for refugee status.
