Johanna Konta sealed her place in the third round of the Australian Open with a straightforward win against China's Zheng Saisai on 21 January in Melbourne. The British number one, who defeated seven-time grand slam winner Venus Williams in the opening round, won in straight sets (6-2 6-3) and will next face Czech Denisa Allertova.

The 24-year-old's latest victory puts her on track to break into the world top 40. However, she is taking nothing for granted and is expecting a tough match against Allertova. "I had a very, very tough match against Allertova in the French Open first round last year," she recalled, according to the Australian Open's official website. "I'll just do my best to prepare in the best way possible for that match."

Despite her recent on-court successes, Konta revealed recently she tries to keep her career achievements in perspective. "I believe in judging myself on my effort and giving my best every time I step out on to the court," she told The Telegraph. "It would be very hypocritical to start judging myself on results or rankings or tournaments or whatever, because it's not a part of how I want to live my life.

"I'm working on being a very happy and sound person, not just for my tennis career but what comes after. So I'm just really making sure I stay on that course, and whatever hardships and circumstances arise, I'm looking forward to dealing with them."

Elsewhere in Melbourne, Britain's Jamie Murray and his partner Bruno Soares defeated Jonathan Marray and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in straight sets (6-3 6-4) to progress to the second round of the men's doubles. Meanwhile, fellow Brit Dominic Inglot and his partner Robert Lindstedt overcame Sergey Betov and Teymuraz Gabashvili in straight sets (6-4 6-3) to seal their place in the next round.
