Around 4,000 consumers under Kochi Corporation and nearby panchayats settled their water bill arrears over the last two weeks, according to the Kerala Water Authority.

The settlement of arrears came after the KWA launched a drive to disconnect the water connection of those who failed to remit the bills. Nearly 500 consumers replaced their faulty meters during this period.

The authority’s daily earnings went up to Rs. 25 lakh from Rs. 15 lakh after the drive was launched over the last two weeks. It had sent notices to about 7,000 consumers urging them to settle the water arrears immediately.

The water connection of nearly 200 consumers, who failed to settle the arrears, was disconnected. Consumers in West Kochi topped the list of highest number of defaulters. KWA said that it will initiate revenue recovery proceedings against those who fail to remit the arrears within the next one month. Such water connections will not be restored.

The drive will be intensified in Kochi Corporation areas, Cheranalloor, Mulavukad, Kadamakudi, Chellanam, Kumbalangi in the coming days.
