New Delhi: National security advisor Ajit Doval is closely monitoring the developments, TOI has learnt.
The operatives were in touch with some people in Syria through VOIP. Their locations were traced to Uttarakhand and UP.
Since Sunday, the agencies and the special cell were conducting multiple raids in Roorkee, Hardwar and two other places. Sources said the operatives had conducted four to five recces in Delhi and Noida.
Delhi Police brass and special cell remained tight-lipped about the operation. However, the arrests were confirmed by sources in intelligence agencies and UP police.
Akhlaq was arrested from Roorkee's Bhagwanpur area, a source said.
TOI had reported on Tuesday that the French president's visit to India had attracted the attention of the ISIS and al Qaida. The latter's plans were foiled in the earlier operation conducted in Sambhal (UP), Delhi, Odisha and Bangalore. The crackdown against Qaida was first reported by TOI.
The current operation is being considered the biggest achievement of the agencies and Delhi Police in the past few years. Police commissioner B S Bassi confirmed the developments but refused to divulge details.
