Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has refused to rent out its stadium to actor-turned-BJP MP Manoj Tiwary's celebrity cricket league (CCL) franchise for its upcoming 2016 edition.
The cricket body's management committee, which met earlier this month, has decided not to host any CCL matches but focus on "serious cricket". The decision comes after last year's controversy involving JSCA boss Amitabh Choudhary.
On January 17 last year, Tiwary had accused Choudhary of locking down the stadium with crew members and fans inside till midnight and lodged a complaint in the local police station. JSCA hit back saying Tiwary used false promotions to mislead the Ranchi crowd.
"It has been informally decided after last year's ruckus that JSCA will not host any matches of cricket leagues such as these. Our focus will be only on serious cricket, nothing else." JSCA spokesperson Manoj Kumar told TOI on Monday. While secretary Rajiv Verma remained unavailable for comments, a senior JSCA functionary said the tiff did damage JSCA's image to a considerable extent and eventually cost the cricket body a number of matches in the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, Tiwary' Bhojpur Dabbangs has approached the Karnataka Cricket Association for the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru for its January 30 match.
