Surat to get 14 more Wi-Fi zones

After the successful launch of the free Wi-Fi services in the Diamond City, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to include another 14 spots under the network including the public parks and gardens, riverfront and the Gopi Talav.

SURAT: After the successful launch of the free Wi-Fi services in the Diamond City, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to include another 14 spots under the network including the public parks and gardens, riverfront and the Gopi Talav.
Sources said that the civic body had set up around 16 Wi-Fi zones in the city in the first phase, which included the SMC headquarter, municipal zone offices, SMIMER hospital, Science Centre, Narmad library, Jagdishchandra Bose Aquarium, Sarthana Nature Park and Zoo, VNSGU and Jilla Seva Sadan.

Now, the civic body plans to set up another14 Wi-Fi zones across the city covering the gardens, riverfront and the Gopi Talav. The residents will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi services for 30 minutes per day at any of the locations.
This would later be extended to nearly 60 locations including Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and city buses. tnn
"Free Wi-Fi is already available in the city and people have been enjoying it free. It is part of the agreement between Gujarat government and Reliance JIO. Youngsters are seen hanging around the municipal zone offices, Narmad Library and other Wi-Fi zones for the free access," said a senior civic officer.
It is also planned that in the near future, all SMC services would also be provided to the citizens through this network. The local body would get a free URL all the time for the purpose.
