Nabbed a week ago by Moradabad police, a 40-year-old man from Kerala’s Kozhikode district is undergoing interrogation by central and state agencies for suspected terror links.
Although not formally arrested, Dineshan, alias Riyaz Rasheed, is in custody under Section 41 of Criminal Procedure Code, which gives police the right to arrest a person without warrant.
Moradabad police officials say they had picked up Dineshan along with four Maldives nationals from a city hotel late January 11 night following a tip-off.
The four others were let off after primary verification in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Dineshan is being interrogated after he offered contradictory details about himself. An official said Dineshan has frequently visited Sambhal district in western UP for the last four years but has not come up with a plausible reason for these trips.
Dineshan claims to be in the garments business. Dineshan has purportedly said he had befriended a few men from the city working in Saudi Arabia in 2000-01. “He claims he came to Moradabad to meet those friends, and met the Maldives residents on garment business,” the officer said.
