Rohtas district administration cracks down on 124 quarrying units
Sasaram: In what appears to be a face saving exercise in the wake of its criticism to check illegal stone quarrying in Kaimur hills, the Rohtas district administration on Sunday again launched an anti-quarrying drive and demolished 124 stone crusher units.
Police had to face resistance from local villagers who resorted to brickbatting. Like the previous drives, police failed to nab any stone mafia from the spot on Sunday.
Six JCB machines and about 300 police personnel were pressed into service for the three-hour drive. Despite this, about 400 illegal crusher units failed to draw the attention of police engaged in anti-mining drive. This was the 10th drive within the last one year. Rohtas SP M S Dhillon confirmed the drive.
The administration on Sunday launched an anti-quarrying drive at Rudrapura under Dehri-on-Sone police station. The cops entered the area and started demolishing the units one by one. The SP, who led the drive, said that altogether 124 units were demolished on Sunday and added stern action would be taken against the guilty. On December 25, 2015, the administration claimed to have demolished about 100 crusher units in the same area.
Last week, police found itself in an embrassing position when two stone mafia, in their confessional statement before police revealed, that a politician, who had been provided armed guard by Rohtas police, collected money from them to enable them to continue their business.
