Bay surfers show their class

Bay of Plenty surfer Elin Tawharu has shown her class taking out two national titles at this year's Billabong National Surfing Championships at the weekend.

Elin won the Under-18 and Under-16 Girls' Division finals and managed a third in the Open Women's Division. She was joined by her Mount Maunganui team mate Kea Smith who also competed in the same three divisions finishing second each time.

The pair aren't the only Mount surfers to show their class at this year's event held at St Clair Beach, Dunedin, which wrapped up on Saturday.

Mount's Kaya Horne took out the Under-16 Boys' Division with Ohope's Jared Gebert placing third. Jonas Tawharu also placed third in the Under-18 Boys' Division.

In the women's division Bay of Plenty had a strong showing Raiha Ensor placing third in the Under-18s and Tiana-Breeze de Mooj placing fourth in the Under-16s.

Phillip Griffin also managed a credible second in the Over-50 Men's Division and Peter De Mooij placing second in the Over-55s.

In the Women's Longboard Division Waihi's Alexis Poulter took out the title backing it up with a win the Women's Stand Up Paddleboard Division.
